…especially when you make a claim!
The recent bad weather caused disruption and travel delays for many holidaymakers trying to escape for some winter sunshine.
Adverse weather conditions meant people were unable to get to airports, ferry ports and to the Euro Tunnel and those that did, many faced long delays or, worse still, cancellation.
The P J Hayman claims department has seen a huge rise in the numbers of weather related claims over recent weeks, the majority of which have been for travel disruption and travel delays.
For those fortunate enough to have taken out Travel Plus Annual Multi-trip ‘Premier Plus’ cover, they are able to claim up to £500 per person for travel delay, up to £1,500 per person for missed departure and up to £10,000 for cancellation of the trip after 10 hours delay. Very generous limits indeed compared to many policies in the market!
A few recent examples of settled claims:
- Family of 4 from Norfolk were stranded in Barbados due to the closure of London Gatwick on the 6th January due to the snow and ice there and so were delayed in Barbados for 75 hours was paid £2,000.00 (£500.00 each up to the policy limit) under the Travel Delay section of their Travel Plus Annual Multi Trip policy (Premier Plus option) on the same day their claim form was received.
- A couple from Jersey were delayed from taking off for their trip to Portugal on the 18th January due to the closure of the airport due to snow and ice and suffered a 24 hour delay and were paid £400.00 (£100.00 per person per 10 hour delay) under the Travel Delay section of their Travel Plus Annual Multi Trip policy (Premier Plus option) again on the same day their claim form was received.
- A family of 3 from Guernsey experienced delay in returning to the UK from France on the 10th January due to bad weather in France and missed their connecting flight from London Gatwick to Guernsey and were paid £334.50 additional travel expenses to fly back to Guernsey under the Missed Departure section of their Travel Plus Annual Multi Trip policy (Premier Plus option) again on the same day their claim form was received.
- A family from Jersey flew back to the UK from Jamaica on the 6th January, were diverted to Birmingham due to the snow and taken to by Thomson Holidays to Gatwick, where they incurred additional accommodation transport costs of £305.25 due to missing their scheduled flight to Jersey. The original airline flew them back to Jersey. The incurred £305.25 was paid to them under the Missed Departure section of their Travel Plus Annual Multi Trip policy (Premier Plus option) again on the same day their claim form was received.
