THOMAS COOK COLLAPSE

By on Sep 23, 2019 in P J Hayman Update |

FOLLOWING THE NEWS THAT THOMAS COOK HAS GONE INTO LIQUIDATION. WE WOULD LIKE TO CLARIFY THE INSURANCE POSITION.

Package Holidays – If you are a Thomas Cook Package Holiday customer, you are protected by ATOL, so you will not be left out of pocket. To make a claim you can do so on the CAA website.

If you are already abroadThe CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) are proceeding with plans to get you home.

If you have booked flights only through Thomas Cook, which are not part of a package holiday – you may need to make your own arrangements to travel home.

Please note: If your return flight is not with Thomas Cook’s airline it may still be valid. For example, if your package holiday booking includes a flight with an airline unrelated to the Thomas Cook Group.
Other elements of the package, such as accommodation and transfers might be affected. For more information click here.

If you are yet to travel – All holidays and flights booked with Thomas Cook are cancelled as of 23rd September 2019. Please do not travel to the airport, if you are booked on a Thomas Cook Airlines flight. It will not be in operation.
Outbound flights are not included in the Civil Aviation Authority’s repatriation programme. You will not be eligible for a repatriation flight, if you decide to book a new flight with another airline of your choice, out of the UK.

Travel Insurance Coverage – where End Supplier Failure or Scheduled Airline Failure is included (see list of schemes below), cover is provided if the insured cannot recover their losses from any other source. In some instances there may also be cover for other pre-paid expenses (consequential losses) which are not recoverable, e.g. pre-paid car hire and accommodation.

P J Hayman main schemes:

Travel Plus –Premier & Premier Plus, irrecoverable flight costs plus consequential losses up to the limits as shown in your insurance policy, per person.
Free Spirit – ‘Super Duper’ cover level only – irrecoverable flight costs.
The above only details our core products. Other scheme covers will differ – please check the individual policy wordings.

Further information and advice

• Please be aware that Thomas Cook Package Holiday customers are protected by ATOL because Thomas Cook was part of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) ATOL Scheme.

• Always keep evidence of booked flights, such as receipts and/or invoices. So you can then try to claim the costs back from your card provider or your travel insurance policy.

• If you paid on your credit card for an item costing more than £100, your card company is equally liable if something goes wrong. Contact your credit card issuer for more information. Read more on the government website.

Travel Date Changes

If a Single Trip policy requires dates to be changed, we will transfer the insurance across. Please advise us of details, scheme and policy number, ideally by email so that an endorsement can be issued.
