We were thrilled to be awarded Personal Lines Specialist Broker of the Year at the National Insurance Awards 2023 on Thursday 9th March. The awards ceremony took place at the London Marriott Hotel, Grosvenor Square, London.

Peter Hayman (MD) represented the P J Hayman & Company team to bring home this prestigious award for the P J Hayman trophy cabinet.

Although travel was hit hard by the pandemic, we’ve followed our plan for recovery. Investing in infrastructure, systems and a roots and branches review of the business. Also, we recently rebranded to re-energise both the business and our team.

Our knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly team helped us win the award. Together, we’ve continued to innovate our niche policies, to provide specialist travel insurance solutions to everyone regardless of risk.

 

How did we win Personal Lines Specialist Broker of the Year?

We have tailored products for niche areas of travel insurance.

Most travel insurance follows a very recognisable standard format. We estimate around 80% of travel insurance falls within this category. The remaining 20% is more niche and indeed specialist, which is where we provide most of our travel insurance solutions.

For instance, we have a specialist activity product called Adventures. Adventures provides tailor-made insurance for individuals and groups who cover for sports, hazardous activities, occupations – or that adventure of a lifetime! Also, this product provides cover to a range of Affinity Groups within the activity sector, such as The British Caving Association and Motorcycle Track Days.

It’s important to note that our customers come from a diverse pool including affinity groups, membership schemes, broker networks, aggregators and direct sources. We also partner with many organisations including charities, service providers, travel agents, tour operators, government agencies and have a prominent voice within industry organisations such as BIBA, ATII and TIIC. Therefore, we continue to make improvements to our innovative product range to meet our customer’s needs by covering high level risks.

 Some of our innovative products include:

• Free Spirit Travel Insurance was the first of its kind to provide cover for all ages and medical conditions. In essence, our philosophy for this product is that nobody should travel without cover for their medical condition(s). Also, Coronavirus Cover, is included with each Free Spirit policy, which includes cancellation, emergency medical and associated expenses, and overseas hospital benefit.
• Staycationplan provides cover for UK Holidays. It’s a specialist product that was produced during the pandemic. Also, it includes COVID-19 Cancellation Cover.
• Top Up My Cover (TUMC), which is a unique and flexible policy that provides cancellation insurance for expensive trips. It allows travellers to top up the amount of cover required (above the underlying policy) by up to £50,000 per person to ensure they can experience that “trip of a lifetime”.
