P J Hayman Provides Cover For World Masters Champion
Do you know anyone in their golden years who is a World Masters Champion? Dorothy (Dot) Fraser is a very special free spirit who not only continues to run in her mid-eighties but also competes to win Gold and Silver medals while representing Great Britain at the World Masters Championships.
Since the age of 12, Dot has always loved running – if you’re ever lucky enough to speak with her, you’d be inspired to start, too! After her marriage and many years spent raising a family, Dot took a break from the sport. However, she eventually discovered a sprinters group at her local athletic club. It was here that her passion for running was ignited once more… Since springing back onto the track in her mid-fifties, she hasn’t looked back! Today, she trains regularly with her running coach in Swanage, Dorset.
Over the last 30 years, Dot’s love for running has taken her around the UK for indoor/outdoor sprinting competitions – including taking part in the London Marathon twice! . She’s also travelled across the world to sprint at the World Masters Athletics Indoor Championships. Her most recent competition was in Poland (2023). At the Polish championships, Dot ran away with Silver medals for both the 60- and 200-metre sprints. Plus, she took Gold for the relay race. As the oldest woman from the UK to participate, Dot is not only a World Masters Champion but also a true inspiration.
How Did a World Masters Champion Discover P J Hayman?
For Dot, one of the great aspects of participating in amateur running events is that it has given her the opportunity to form firm friendships with other athletes and organisers – in her words, “I love the companionship we’ve formed.” It was one-such running friend who helped Dot source a new travel insurance policy for the European Masters Athletics Championships (EMACS) 2025 in Madeira this October.
All flights and accommodation are organised for her each year, but Dot still needs to source suitable travel insurance for every sporting event outside the UK. She’s always had the wisdom to take out travel insurance – even if she doesn’t need to make a claim. Dot is aware that travelling with insurance is a good idea. This is especially relevant if, like Dot, you have overcome illnesses and are living with a medical condition.
However, this year, Dot struggled to obtain a travel insurance policy from one insurer, because they wouldn’t cover amateur competitions for 100- and 200-metre races. Thankfully, Dot picked up the phone to call one of her running friends for advice. One good friend pointed her in the direction of P J Hayman and Free Spirit Travel Insurance, who were able to provide her with the cover she needed. After being advised by Wynne Grant Dot was set for her next race.
A quote from Dot
“It’s a lot cheaper than £500 – for your age… even after a stroke. It’s absolutely brilliant service!”
