Communications Team of The Year
P J Hayman is no stranger to challenging the status quo. In the early 2000s, we embraced various innovative technological and product changes and published our first website. Despite unforeseen challenges over the last 35 years, we’ve continued to be committed to providing exceptional service – demonstrated by our industry awards.
Today’s challenge is keeping up with how people communicate and their demand for real-time information. Working in both the B2C and B2B spaces intensifies this challenge as there are two very different requirements for communication. Brokers need easy-to-access information tailored to their level of knowledge. Customers need clear communication that guides them towards informed decisions – without industry jargon. Therefore, bridging the gap in consumer knowledge/understanding has been a key driver for our marketing approach.
Our mission is to close that knowledge gap by creating informative, engaging and reliable content for brokers and consumers. In doing so, we enable all parties to make informed decisions about whether they need travel insurance. It’s about more than just selling insurance; we want to create a positive conversation around insurance and alleviate the financial and emotional worries of travelling without the correct cover.
How have we tackled today’s challenges and promoted innovation in the industry?
- Understanding our audience has helped us to evaluate different learning styles. Listening to customer feedback has also enabled us to implement a well-rounded communications strategy.
- We effectively communicate travel rules, information and news through different media. These include social media platforms LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube and TikTok, which support our business partners, customers and brokers by providing accessible information.
- We are enhancing our sales platforms using AI technology to assist our customers and brokers while they’re online. This will help to answer questions that might otherwise force them to abandon their journey. This also gives customers the ability to obtain help and assistance when buying cover, 24 hours a day.
- Our sales teams remain available to provide help and support during working hours.
- We share bespoke broker support content on our website with an innovative Product Selection Tool.
- We support other organisations with their marketing to reach their goals, such as the TIIC, which is a not-for-profit organisation. We are proud to be part of an initiative which has a wider positive impact.
Comment From Michelle Tressler, Product & Marketing Manager:

Quote From Founder, Peter Hayman:
‘35 years is a milestone for any business. I have seen enormous changes in the Travel Insurance Industry during this time. It is a class of cover which, though a minnow compared to many others, touches tens of millions of people – enabling them to travel with confidence. It has been an honour and a privilege to have been a part of this sector.’
